Bender’s Big Score

August 31, 2007

I remember when Futurama first came on the air. Being a huge Simpsons fan (still am), I was extremely excited for the show. It was really funny even. I was a fan.

For one reason or another, I stopped watching. Then before I knew it, it was off the air.

There’s been talk of a direct to DVD movie release since the show has found a following on Cartoon Network. That info became a sure thing quite a ways back, but today I have the cover art to present to you for the first Futurama DVD movie, Bender’s Big Score:

Bender's Big Score DVD

It’s scheduled for release November 27th.

The Mist Trailer

August 31, 2007

The first trailer for writer/director Frank Darabont’s third Stephen King adaptation, The Mist, is up over at Yahoo! Movies.

I’d say for him to do something besides King, but when it works this well (and The Majestic didn’t) there’s no point in fixing what isn’t broken.

Star Trek Plot Details

August 31, 2007

Details on the plot for JJ Abrams’ reinvention of the Star Trek franchise have been practically nonexistant up until this point.

Now, AICN and Dark Horizons are reporting on what is, if true, a really cool concept.

The theory has it that a group of Romulans are thrown back into the past and plan to kill James T. Kirk’s father, and as a result Spock must somehow stop this event from happening. In the process Trek continuity proceeds along an alternate timeline, essentially rebooting the entire franchise.

This certainly explains why we haven’t heard any casting announcements about Captain Kirk yet. It’s a very novel idea, and wouldn’t put it past Abrams to do something so drastic.

Guess we’ll have to call it a wait and see.

Goonies Sequel Animated?

August 31, 2007

There’s been talk for quite a while now of a sequel to Richard Donner’s 80s classic The Goonies. Though rumors flew all over the place, the best one I heard was the one of having the Goonies all grown up and having to go on another adventure when their kids wind up seeking some kind of treasure. It sounds kind of hackneyed, but I think with the proper writing it could be fun.

Anyway, today, after a long time, comes another rumor on the subject. In an interview with MTV, Corey Feldman discusses some of the rumors surrounding the supposed sequel:

“Right now they are talking about the idea of doing it as an animated series,” Feldman revealed, without offering more details.

Goonies Animated

Pretty cool concept art, I gotta say. Check out the full interview at MTV where Feldman discusses the idea I mentioned earlier.

Snyder Hard at Work on Watchmen

August 31, 2007

Director Zach Snyder (300) is hard at work on 2009’s Watchmen graphic novel adaptation. He spoke with Wizard recently to discuss the process:

I kind of storyboard. I draw. For instance, if I’m at a scene where Rorschach and Dan [“Nite Owl” Dreiberg] go to Happy Harry’s to interrogate people, I have the script there while I’m going, and then I have the graphic novel which is the scene as well, and I kind of squish the two together. I change the script a little bit if I like a piece of dialogue that’s in the graphic novel. Most of the dialogue is in the graphic novel, but every now and then I’ll say, “Oh, we left this out. I wonder why?”—maybe it’s time [issues] or whatever—and I’ll kind of whack it back in. Then I’ll look at the compositions that are in the graphic novel and the details that are in the frame, and then with the art department I’ll say, “It’d be cool if we have this kind of whiskey or this light thickness to add in the background,” or whatever that little thing is. All those kind of crazy obsessive details, I try to whack those in as much as I can.

Kenneth Branagh’s Sleuth

August 31, 2007

Since I purchased his oustanding version of Hamlet on DVD a couple of weeks ago, I’ve been thinking about Kenneth Branagh. And now comes a bit of news on his newest film.

Sleuth, a remake of the 1972 film of the same name, stars Michael Caine and Jude Law. Oddly enough, in the original, Michael Caine starred in the role Jude Law has now taken on. Here’s a synopsis:

On his sprawling country estate, an aging writer (Caine) matches wits with the struggling actor (Law) who has stolen his wife’s heart.

This sounds pretty damn good. Comingsoon.net has the first poster up today.

David Goyer’s Many Projects

August 30, 2007

Writer/director David Goyer, who has been trusted in the past with such comic book properties as Blade and Batman Begins, spoke with Wizard recently on a few of his upcoming projects. Here are the good ones:

Magneto

“We’ve done some scouts and it mostly takes place in Europe and Argentina. We’re doing budgets and we’re sort of halfway crewed up, and so that’ll be the big question: whether we can bring it in for a price.”

Heroes: Origins

“If I’m available, I’d love to do one. I think it would be fun, and I also like the idea that these origin episodes are self-contained and there’s the opportunity to sort of stylistically go off in different directions.”

The Invisible Man

“I’ll be doing that next year…. I just randomly had this idea for what would sort of be a direct sequel, which literally starts like a month after the original Invisible Man in Victorian England. I went in and I pitched this whole thing to Universal and to [producer] Brian Grazer and they loved it. So we were off and running.”

I wasn’t going to post that last one, but are they referring to the old Invisible Man? As in H.G. Wells? That could be cool.

Wall Street Sequel

August 30, 2007

It’s been rumored for a long time, but the sequel to Oliver Stone’s 1987 film Wall Street is coming. Titled Money Never Sleeps, producer Edward R. Pressman has the following to say:

“The new film will be based in New York, in London, in the United Arab Emirates and in an Asian country. We’ve pretty well worked out the inter-personal relationships between the characters. We’re now talking about the business events.”

Michael Douglas will be returning as the greedy Gordon Gekko, who, after spending some time in jail, has now been free for eight years.

Has he reformed or is the same money-grubber he was before? “On the surface he will be a more outwardly altruistic figure though ‘a leopard doesn’t change its spots, despite appearances.’”
