Parting Words

October 1, 2007

It’s been over a week without an update from yours truly, and unfortunately, this latest one comes as the last.

For now, anyway. Due to circumstances beyond my control (i.e. a busy work schedule, trying to do more creative writing), I’m going to have to stop writing in this blog for the time being.

I have really enjoyed taking part in the daily pop culture news environment online this past summer, and I hope you’ve enjoyed reading. It was fun while it lasted, and I certainly hope to take up a journal like this again (if not this same journal), once I have more time to devote to it.

I’ll continue to read the news at the websites listed on my blogroll to the right (as you should!), and I hope people stay in touch!

Lollapalooza 2007!

August 6, 2007

The lack of updates on Friday and over the weekend can be attributed to one word, five syllables:

LOLLAPALOOZA!

Sure, I was only there for Saturday, but boy was it a Hell of a day. In addition to seeing Silverchair for a second time, I got to see the following artists for the first time (I’ve bolded the ones new to me that I definitely recommend):

  • I’m From Barcelona
  • Ryan Shaw
  • Motion City Soundtrack
  • Cold War Kids
  • The Roots
  • Regina Spektor
  • Yeah Yeah Yeahs
  • Spoon
  • Muse
  • It was a great day, but I’ve now got an incredible amount of news to read! Stay tuned for updates!

    Crazy, Crazy Comic Con

    July 27, 2007

There have been so many news posts over the last day or so, I can’t even keep up! I have at least ten posts to make right off the bat, and that’s not counting the news I’ve read in the last 12 hours!

A lot of today’s posts will be news I actually read yesterday, but hopefully, I’ll get caught up so I can report on some of the other things that I’ll hear over the course of today.

    Happy reading!

    Comic Con Reporting

    July 23, 2007

I don’t usually make posts on the weekends (there’s usually little news to report), but this weekend should be different.

The San Diego Comic Con is garnering more buzz this year than I can ever remember it getting. Loads of news items are set to be announced/revealed. It should be quite the event.

I do have a bit else going on this weekend, but I should be around Saturday at least to keep you all informed of the many goings on. And of course I’ll be reporting on anything announced during the first three days, as they’re weekdays.

The Comic Con starts Wednesday, July 25th and runs through Sunday July 29th.

    Busy Days

    July 12, 2007

Yesterday was a really busy day for me, so while I did read and save lots of stories to write about, I didn’t get the opportunity to post any of them.

Which is really unfortunate, because there was a lot of news yesterday.

In addition to the daily goings-on, the Electronics Entertainment Expo began yesterday in San Diego, California. The biggest gaming convention of the entire year, the big three all will have huge announcements this week. We’ve only seen some so far (during their initial press conferences), but stay tuned for loads of surprises I’m sure.

I’ll be keeping up to the minute over at 1UP.com, but there are many other places you can go as well. This stuff is all over the net.

Or just keep it tuned here, and I’ll apprise you of the E3 news that really counts.

    Welcome!

    June 27, 2007

There’s a lot of pressure on the first post of a new blog.

Bear with me here. I’m a little nervous.

Over the course of my life I’ve become more and more interested in the many aspects of popular culture, ranging from music, movies, television, video games, books, and so on. Unable to focus on one particular aspect, I simply found the whole lot of it engaging. As many know, it becomes an obsession of sorts.

With the advent of the internet, keeping up on pop culture has become a lot easier. News is readily available for those that know how to look, and it becomes quite simple to “scoop” your friends. At this point in my life, most of mine come to me for all the news; after all we have the same interests.

Little do they know, I only tell them about one third of all the news I even read; most of it isn’t pertinent to our interests.

It then occurred to me: I was only telling them the stuff that mattered to me, the stuff I found engaging, and the stuff worth actually hearing about.

So, I decided that I may as well have a proper forum for these revelations. It would help me to keep everything organized (since I might forget to relay certain stories as my head becomes more cluttered), and would help me ensure that I’m keeping everyone up to date.

I’ll start by filling you on what’s happened the week up to this point. After that I hope to update on things as I hear about them in a more consistent fashion.

As I get things running here, you might notice some changes as well. And suggestions will, of course, always be welcome. Unless you want me to report on all the news. That’s not why I’m here. I’m here to tell you about the stuff that really matters.

    The Marko matters.

I hope you all enjoy it.
