Dashboard Confessional’s The Shade of Poison Trees

September 20, 2007

Dashboard Confessional has a new album coming up. According to the iTunes release info:

“Dashboard Confessional returns to the signature acoustic roots the band became famous for on 2000’s Swiss Army Romance. Recorded over 10 days in their home state of Florida and produced by Don Gilmore (Pearl Jam, Linkin Park)”

This all actually sounds good. The album will be released October 2nd.

    Lots of Dexter News!

    August 25, 2007

The first season of Dexter, the original Showtime series, was released earlier this week, and packaged with the DVD were a few ads that indicate more about the future of the now lucrative Dexter franchise.

First up, the second season will premiere on Showtime on Sunday, September 30th at 9:00PM E/P. Episodes following this will continue on Sundays at the same time.

Several previews of the upcoming season are up over at the Showtime website.

Furthermore, a soundtrack for the series containing the main title theme by Rolfe Kent and original score by Daniel Licht will be released August 28th.

Finally, and most excitingly, the new book in Jeff Lindsay’s series that serves as the basis for the show, titled Dexter in the Dark will be released on September 18th. A description of the story can be found after the link, as it could potentially ruin future seasons of the show.

New We Are Scientists in ‘08!

    August 17, 2007

The latest information shows that a new album from indie, dance-punk rockers We Are Scientists is scheduled for release in January of 2008! There are many tentative titles including, “Mermaid Stewwwww (Yuck!),” “What # of $ Do That Cost?” “Fluffin’ Tha Cushions” and “Onlookerswatchedinhorror.” There’s a good interview over at CMJ as well.

If you haven’t heard their first release, “With Love and Splendor,” by now, you should absolutely go pick it up this second.

Hopefully a tour will follow, as they’re a great, fun band to see live.

    Scrubs Musical Soundtrack

    August 8, 2007

The musical episode of Scrubs, which aired during the most recent sixth season, was quite hilarious. Much like the Buffy musical before it, it was a little odd seeing characters we know doing song and dance numbers. Thanks to clever lyrics and hilarious explanations for why the characters are singing and dancing, both have pulled it off.

And now you can listen to it on its own! The polished soundtrack for the Scrubs musical is currently available in iTunes for $9.99.

    Coheed and Cambria’s Next Album

    August 7, 2007

The title is way too long to fit in a header. Anyway, alt-prog rockers Coheed and Cambria will release their newest album “Good Apollo, I’m Burning Star IV, Volume Two: No World for Tomorrow” on October 23rd.

The latest in their five-part story of The Armory Wars, not much is known about where it will take the story.

    Musika on iPods Today

    August 7, 2007

Available today on the iTunes music store is a new iPod game called “Musika.” It’s a one-button rhythm game that serves as a visualizer and allows you to press the main iPod button in time with the music as the game portion of it.

I’m not sure exactly how that’ll play out, but it comes from Masaya Matsuura, the creator of PaRappa the Rapper, the Playstation classic rhythm game that really a lot of games like Guitar Hero and the like have to thank for essentially spawning the genre on home consoles.

I don’t know if I’ll get it, but of all the games iTunes offers for fifth generation iPods this one at least sounds interesting. Let me know if any of you play it, yeah?

New Foo Fighters Album Due Sept. 25!

    August 7, 2007

With the release of their live album/DVD “Skin and Bones,” I guess it hasn’t seemed like very long since the last Foo Fighters album. Though since “In Your Honor,” only two years have passed so I suppose it hasn’t been much time at all.

Citing Steely Dan as a major influence on the new tracks and bringing aboard producer Gil Norton (”The Colour and the Shape”), the Foos have their newest album “Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace” due for release September 25th.

    Here’s the album art:

    Echoes Silence Patience & Grace

It’s currently available for pre-order on iTunes where you’ll immediately get the first single, “The Pretender,” the bonus song “Seda,” and starting today August 7th, you’ll also receive a Ticketmaster concert pre-sale password for their upcoming album tour.

    Lollapalooza 2007!

    August 6, 2007

The lack of updates on Friday and over the weekend can be attributed to one word, five syllables:

    LOLLAPALOOZA!

Sure, I was only there for Saturday, but boy was it a Hell of a day. In addition to seeing Silverchair for a second time, I got to see the following artists for the first time (I’ve bolded the ones new to me that I definitely recommend):

  • I’m From Barcelona
  • Ryan Shaw
  • Motion City Soundtrack
  • Cold War Kids
  • The Roots
  • Regina Spektor
  • Yeah Yeah Yeahs
  • Spoon
  • Muse
  • It was a great day, but I’ve now got an incredible amount of news to read! Stay tuned for updates!
