Flight of the Conchords EP & Album!

July 30, 2007

Flight of the Conchords, the New Zealand musical duo who debuted their new HBO series on June 17th, have a five song EP coming out August 7th in preparation for their full album release due sometime in October.

Flight of the Conchords EP

The songs on the EP will be recognizable by any Flight fan:

  • 1) Business Time
  • 2) If You’re Into It
  • 3) Crying
  • 4) Beautiful Girl (live)
  • 5) Robots (live)
  • If you haven’t seen the show yet, I highly recommend it. Take Tenacious D, but with a more subtle, awkward and less in-your-face kind of humor that parodies all styles of music, not just rock and metal, and you’ve got Flight of the Conchords.

For a taste, simply do a quick youtube search for ‘flight of the conchords’.

    Michel Gondry on Ripley

    July 5, 2007

Experimental director du jour, Michel Gondry, may be reteaming with his Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind cohort Jim Carrey.

Carrey is the latest name attached to the upcoming Ripley’s Believe It or Not! adaptation. The project has been stuck in development for some time now. Tim Burton was recently attached, but, having just dropped out, Gondry’s name is now being mentioned.

Carrey will play the titular Robert Ripley, and it will chronicle his adventures scouring the earth for the various oddities now associated with his name.

Incidentally, Gondry directed Natalie Portman in Paul McCartney’s newest music video, “Dance Tonight.”

    Zeitgeist Pre-Order

    June 29, 2007

I’m not partial to downloading entire albums on iTunes. Not only do I like to own a physical copy of the album, but I always wind up getting screwed somehow when I do it. The only reason I get interested in buying them through iTunes is for the exclusives. In this case, they’re pretty hefty.

The new Smashing Pumpkins album, Zeitgeist, will be released on July 10th. That’s not news. However, if you pre-order it on iTunes, you receive the song “Doomsday Clock” off the album immediately. You’ll also receive the following Smashing Pumpkins covers:

  • “Rocket” by The Bravery
  • “Tonight Tonight” by Panic! at the Disco
  • “I am One” by +44
  • “Mayonaise” by The Academy Is…
  • “Ava Adore” by Test Your Reflex
  • As if all of this weren’t enough, pre-ordering will also give you a Ticketmaster password to get in on the Smashing Pumpkins ticket pre-sale for their upcoming tour.

Simply for the fact that I want to see them in Chicago, that last bit makes any online troubles through iTunes worth it.

    Weezer Not Dead

    June 28, 2007

In a posting on their website, Weezer frontman Rivers “R-dawg” Cuomo has said they are not done yet. In fact, quite the opposite:

“Weezer is just polishing up a batch of songs for a recording session that is going to start at the beginning of July. This will be the final recording session for our 6th album which we aim to put out in the first half of 2008.”

    Start counting the days.
